2 Euro Commemorative Coin Finland 2015 30th Anniversary of the EU Flag The coin marks the adoption of the European flag as the emblem of the European Communities and refers back to its earlier acceptance by the Council of Europe in the 1950s. The flag’s twelve golden stars on a blue field signify unity, solidarity and harmony rather than a count of member states. On the Finnish two‑euro piece the flag sits at the centre; the stars flow into stylised human figures, a visual expression of the emergence of a jointly supported Europe. The rim carries twelve additional stars, the inscription SUOMI FINLAND and a date marking. Designer Georgios Stamatopoulos, an engraver at the Bank of Greece, placed his initials at lower right.
