2 Euro Commemorative Coin France 2015 30th Anniversary of the EU Flag This issue marks thirty years of the European flag as a symbol of the European Community and later the European Union. The circle of twelve golden stars on a blue field was first created by the Council of Europe and adopted by the Communities in 1985. The stars do not represent the number of member states, but unity, harmony and completeness. With this common coin, France joins in honouring a widely recognised emblem of European belonging.
