2 Euro Commemorative Coin Germany 2015 30th Anniversary of the EU Flag Germany’s 2015 commemorative €2 coin celebrates 30 years of the European flag as part of a joint issue by several euro-area countries. The occasion was the 1985 decision by the European Communities to adopt as their emblem the flag first chosen by the Council of Europe in 1955. Its blue field and circle of twelve gold stars represent unity, solidarity and harmony among Europe’s peoples; the stars do not indicate the number of member states. Designed by Greek engraver Georgios Stamatopoulos, the coin shows the stars transforming into human figures and reaching toward one another, expressing a Europe formed through shared identity and diversity.
