2 Euro Commemorative Coin Luxembourg 2015 30th Anniversary of the EU Flag The Luxembourg 2 Euro commemorative coin of 2015 marks the 30th anniversary of the European flag and was issued on 10 December 2015 as part of the joint euro‑area release. The flag had originally been chosen by the Council of Europe in 1955; in 1983 the European Parliament recommended its use for the Communities, and the leaders of the European Communities adopted it as the official emblem on 28–29 June 1985, which explains the 1985–2015 inscription. The inner field shows the European flag with its twelve stars transforming into human figures, symbolizing the birth of a new Europe and ties between peoples and cultures. "LËTZEBUERG" and "1985–2015" appear at top right, the designer Georgios Stamatopoulos’s initials at bottom right; the outer ring repeats twelve stars.
