2 Euro Commemorative Coin Slovakia 2015 30th Anniversary of the EU Flag The twelve golden stars on a blue field became a symbol of European unity in 1985. Their number does not represent the number of member states; it stands for unity, solidarity and harmony. The common issue of 2015 marked three decades of this emblem. In Georgios Stamatopoulos’s design, the stars become human figures moving around Europe. A flag motif is thus turned into an image of the people who sustain European cooperation.
