2 Euro Commemorative Coin Luxembourg 2007 Henri I The Luxembourg 2-euro commemorative coin was issued in February 2007 to honour the Grand Ducal Palace. The design overlays a portrait of Grand Duke Henri on an image of the palace; the year 2007 appears at left, “LËTZEBUERG” at the base, and the outer ring carries the twelve EU stars. The current palace stands on the site of the former town hall, rebuilt in a Renaissance style in the early 1570s after the 1554 fire. From 1891 the building was remodelled under Grand Duke Adolphe into the official residence; the work was completed in 1895 and Adolphe and Grand Duchess Adelheid Marie took up residence on 2 December 1895. The ECB does not give a designer’s name, noting only the positions of the engraver’s mark and the mintmark.
