2 Euro Commemorative Coin Slovenia 2015 30th Anniversary of the EU Flag 2-euro commemorative coin Slovenia 2015 30th anniversary of the European flag This commemorative coin marks the 1985 decision to adopt the blue flag with twelve golden stars—first created for the Council of Europe—as the official emblem of the European Communities and, subsequently, the European Union. The Council of Europe had adopted the design in 1955, while the European Parliament endorsed it in 1983. The twelve stars do not indicate the number of member states; instead, they express European unity, solidarity and connection. In 2015, the euro-area countries issued commemorative €2 coins using a shared design for the anniversary. Slovenia contributed one million pieces.
