2 Euro Commemorative Coin Spain 2016 UNESCO World Heritage Sites The Spanish 2-euro commemorative coin of 2016 honours the Aqueduct of Segovia and continues Spain’s series, issued since 2009, devoted to UNESCO World Heritage sites. Government instructions set the minting and release for the first half of 2016. The design places the aqueduct at the centre, with the name “ESPAÑA” above, the year 2016 below and the mint mark to the right; the outer ring bears the twelve EU stars. The Roman structure, dated to around 50 (first century), is unusually well preserved and distinguished by two superposed arcades. It forms part of Segovia’s historic townscape, reflecting a long-standing coexistence of Moorish, Christian and Jewish communities.
