2 Euro Commemorative Coin Slovenia 2017 10th Anniversary of the Euro in Slovenia Slovenia 2-Euro Commemorative Coin 2017 10 Years of the Euro in Slovenia This commemorative coin marks Slovenia’s transition to the euro on 1 January 2007, when the currency became legal tender and Slovenia joined both the euro area and the Eurosystem. The change followed the country’s fulfilment of the convergence criteria and the European Council’s decision of 11 July 2006, which approved membership and set the introduction date. A decade later, Slovenia commemorated this milestone in European integration. Ten swallows form a circular flight on the design, symbolising progress and development when moving clockwise; the bird also draws on Slovenia’s folk heritage.
