2 Euro Commemorative Coin Finland 2017 100th Anniversary of Independence of Finland This coin commemorates the hundredth anniversary of independent Finland and presents the historical moment in a restrained visual programme. The Finnish Senate presented an independence declaration on 4 December 1917; the Parliament approved the measure on 6 December 1917, a date since observed as Finland’s Independence Day. In the coin’s inner field a mosaic of dots creates an abstract, map-like suggestion of the country, with more loosely placed dots to the right forming the cartographic impression; vertically on the left appear SUOMI FINLAND and the dates 1917 and 2017, while the right bears the country code FI and the mint mark. The outer ring carries the twelve stars of the European flag. Simon Örnberg is listed as the designer; mintage 2.5 million, issued March–May 2017.
