2 Euro Commemorative Coin Malta 2017 Malta's Prehistoric Monuments - UNESCO World Heritage Site Ħaġar Qim Temples – Issued in 2017, this €2 commemorative coin honours the Ħaġar Qim temple complex near Qrendi, part of Malta’s UNESCO-listed megalithic temples. It was the second coin in a seven-piece series devoted to the island’s prehistoric monuments. Built around 3600–3200 BC, the site ranks among the world’s earliest free-standing stone structures and bears witness to an exceptional prehistoric culture. The design centres on a representation of the ancient temples. At the upper right, the name and date appear together, while “MALTA” and “2017” are placed below; the initials “NGB” identify designer Noel Galea Bason.
