2 Euro Commemorative Coin Finland 2017 Finnish Nature This issue pays tribute to the country’s natural heritage and was issued in connection with the national Nature Photograph of the Year award. Its national motif comes from the winning image of the special “Blue and White” contest: a full moon above Harmaja, an island off Helsinki, with a crow perched on a bare branch. The composition was assembled from two photographs by nature photographer Kari Auvinen, establishing him as the author of the photographic source rather than necessarily the coin’s engraver. The crow has been presented as a symbol of modern Finland — familiar, intelligent and adaptable. The coin bears the country code FI, the mint mark, the date numeral and twelve stars in the outer ring. The public unveiling took place on 21 October, with distribution beginning on 23 October.
