2 Euro Commemorative Coin Austria 2007 50th Anniversary of the Treaty of Rome Austria’s issue forms part of the joint European commemorative programme marking fifty years since the Treaties of Rome. Signed in 1957, the treaties created the European Economic Community and Euratom. The coin places the treaty document over the paving of Rome’s Capitoline Hill square, the setting in which it was signed. The design therefore links the historic location with the idea of lasting and closer European cooperation.
