2 Euro Commemorative Coin Italy 2017 2000th Anniversary of the death of Titus Livio Italy’s 2017 €2 commemorative coin marks the 2,000th anniversary of the death of Titus Livius, the Roman historian who died in 17 CE at Patavium, modern Padua. Livy was the author of Ab Urbe Condita, a monumental account of Rome’s history that reached from its legendary foundation to the author’s own era. The work helped shape Roman historical memory and remained influential in historical writing long after antiquity. The coin presents Livy’s bust, based on a work by Lorenzo Larese Moretti. It also bears the initials of the Italian Republic and designer Claudia Momoni, the mint mark R, and the dates 17 and 2017. The inscription TITO • LIVIO and twelve European stars complete the design.
