2 Euro Commemorative Coin Germany 2018 Federal State of Berlin, Charlottenburg Palace (Bundesländer I) Issued in 2018, Germany’s “Berlin” 2-euro commemorative coin belongs to the Federal States series, which brings a distinctive landmark from each state into European everyday currency. Its design presents Charlottenburg Palace, Berlin’s most important surviving palace complex and a major setting of Prussian court and cultural history. The original building, Lietzenburg Palace, was erected between 1695 and 1699 for Electress Sophie Charlotte. After Frederick I became king, it was enlarged on a grander scale, and successive generations of the Hohenzollern dynasty shaped the complex. The coin emphasizes its recognizable architecture and links Berlin with Germany’s layered historical heritage.
