2 Euro Commemorative Coin Belgium 2007 50th Anniversary of the Treaty of Rome The common issue marking the 50th anniversary of the Treaties of Rome recalls their signature on 25 March 1957. Those treaties created the European Economic Community and Euratom, and Belgium was one of the six signatory states. The shared design places the treaty document over the paving of Rome’s Capitoline Hill, where it was signed. For Belgium, the issue links its role as a founding member with Europe’s path from post-war cooperation to today’s European Union.
