2 Euro Commemorative Coin Belgium 2018 50th Anniversary of the launch of the ESRO-2B satellite The launch of ESRO-2B in 1968 brought early European space research into focus. The satellite belonged to programmes of the European Space Research Organisation, a predecessor of today’s European Space Agency. Its mission investigated cosmic radiation and other phenomena above the Earth’s atmosphere. Belgium’s coin shows how scientific progress often depends on international cooperation: individual states combine knowledge, technology and funding to explore questions no country can address alone.
