2 Euro Commemorative Coin Italy 2018 60th Anniversary of the establishment of the Italian Ministry of Health Italy’s 2018 commemorative 2-euro coin marks the sixtieth anniversary of the Ministry of Health, established as an autonomous state institution in 1958. The issue therefore recalls the development of public health administration in the Italian Republic and the broad responsibilities associated with protecting the population’s health. Its central design presents an allegorical female figure representing health. Around her are symbolic references to four areas of ministerial activity: the environment, research, nutrition, and medicine. The circular inscription identifies the Ministero della Salute and gives the dates 1958–2018. The design also includes RI, the abbreviation for the Italian Republic, the R mintmark of Rome, and Silvia Petrassi’s initials. Twelve stars place the national commemoration within the wider European context.
