2 Euro Commemorative Coin Greece 2007 50th Anniversary of the Treaty of Rome Greece’s 2-euro commemorative coin of 2007 marks the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Treaties of Rome. On 25 March 1957, Belgium, France, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and the Federal Republic of Germany concluded two agreements in Rome: one established the European Economic Community, while the other created the European Atomic Energy Community, Euratom. Both treaties entered into force on 1 January 1958 and provided major institutional and economic foundations for European integration. The shared coin design depicts the treaty document bearing the signatures of the six founding states, set against the star-shaped paving of Rome’s Piazza del Campidoglio, designed by Michelangelo. Euro-area countries issued the commemorative coin jointly in 2007.
