2 Euro Commemorative Coin Malta 2019 Malta's Prehistoric Monuments - UNESCO World Heritage Site Ta’ Ħaġrat Temples – issued in 2019, this Maltese €2 commemorative coin honours the prehistoric temple complex near Mġarr and its place within the UNESCO World Heritage property “Megalithic Temples of Malta”. The Ta’ Ħaġrat temples were built roughly between 3600 and 3000 BC, placing them among the earliest monumental expressions of temple architecture on the Maltese islands. Sir Temi Zammit brought the site to wider attention in 1916, and the first excavations followed in 1923. The design presents the temple façade, emphasizing its imposing portal and the three steps in front. The inscription gives the site’s name, date, Malta, and the year of issue.
