2 Euro Commemorative Coin Ireland 2007 50th Anniversary of the Treaty of Rome Through this joint issue, Ireland marked the signing of the Treaties of Rome on 25 March 1957. Those treaties established the European Economic Community and Euratom, becoming an important starting point for later European integration. The design combines the treaty document with the geometric paving of Rome’s Piazza del Campidoglio, the historic signing venue. The Irish inscriptions “AN EORAIP” and “CONRADH NA RÓIMHE 50 BLIAIN” place the Europe-wide occasion in a national setting. The design was created by Helmut Andexlinger, while the twelve stars in the outer ring frame this common European issue.
