2 Euro Commemorative Coin Spain 2020 Mudejar Architecture of Aragon - UNESCO World Heritage Sites Issued on February 1, 2020, Spain’s 2‑euro commemorative honours the Mudéjar Architecture of Aragon as part of the country’s annual series on national World Heritage sites. The design features the El Salvador tower in Teruel, a fourteenth‑century structure raised while a Muslim community still lived in the town and regarded as the latest Mudéjar tower there. Its form echoes an almohad minaret, with two concentric square towers and a staircase between them. Distinctive decorative touches include green-and-white glazed tiles and multi‑lobed arches. The Aragonese Mudéjar tradition began in the twelfth century, blending Islamic motifs with contemporary European, especially Gothic, forms and continuing into the early seventeenth century. The field bears “ESPAÑA”, the mint mark, “2020” and “ARQUITECTURA MUDEJAR DE ARAGÓN”, while the edge shows twelve stars.
