2 Euro Commemorative Coin Malta 2020 Malta's Prehistoric Monuments - UNESCO World Heritage Site Skorba Temples. Issued in 2020, this €2 commemorative coin honours one of Malta’s important prehistoric sites and forms the fifth of seven coins dedicated to the island’s ancient archaeological locations. Skorba stands near Żebbiegħ, on the edge of Mġarr. The temple ruins date to roughly 3500 BC and were built over an earlier settlement dating to about 5000 BC. Since 1992, the site has formed part of the UNESCO World Heritage property “Megalithic Temples of Malta.” The design depicts the surviving remains and carries the inscriptions “SKORBA TEMPLES 3600–2500 BC,” “MALTA,” and “2020.”
