2 Euro Commemorative Coin Portugal 2007 50th Anniversary of the Treaty of Rome The Portuguese 2007 coin commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Treaties of Rome. Signed on 25 March 1957 by six founding states and entering into force on 1 January 1958, the treaties established the European Economic Community and Euratom. The coin shows the signed treaty set against a pavement motif inspired by Michelangelo’s design for Rome’s Piazza del Campidoglio. Inscriptions include EUROPA, ‘TRATADO DE ROMA, 50 ANOS’, the country name and the year 2007; mint mark INCM, the twelve EU stars and designer H. Andexlinger are present. Issued 25 March 2007 as part of the joint euro commemorative issue.
