2 Euro Commemorative Coin Slovenia 2020 500th Anniversary of the birth of Adam Bohoric Slovenian €2 Commemorative Coin 2020 500th Anniversary of the Birth of Adam Bohorič This coin honours Adam Bohorič, a Slovene Protestant teacher and scholar born around 1520 near Brestanica. His principal work, the Latin–Slovene grammar “Arcticae horulae succisivae”, published in 1584 and known as “Free Winter Hours”, marked a decisive stage in the history of the Slovene language. It set out rules for spelling and grammar and helped establish a theoretical basis for written Slovene. The alphabet associated with Bohorič remained in use, with modifications, until the nineteenth century. The commemorative subject therefore celebrates both his role in Slovene cultural identity and his place within the wider European intellectual tradition.
