2 Euro Commemorative Coin Slovenia 2007 50th Anniversary of the Treaty of Rome 2 Euro Commemorative Coin Slovenia 2007 50th Anniversary of the Treaties of Rome This coin marks the signing of the Treaties of Rome on 25 March 1957. Belgium, France, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and the Federal Republic of Germany established the European Economic Community, seeking to create a common market that would deepen economic ties and encourage growth. At the same time, a separate treaty founded the European Atomic Energy Community, known as Euratom. Both agreements entered into force on 1 January 1958 and became a major foundation for European integration. Slovenia, which had joined the euro area in January 2007, took part in the anniversary issue with the other euro-area countries.
