2 Euro Commemorative Coin Spain 2021 Historic City of Toledo - UNESCO World Heritage Sites The Spanish FNMT issued a 2-euro commemorative coin in 2021 honoring the Historic Centre of Toledo. It is the twelfth release in the Spanish annual series, begun in 2010, celebrating sites in Spain inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The design pairs the Puerta del Sol, a 14th-century Mudéjar gate, with a close-up of the wall decoration from the prayer room of the Synagogue of Samuel Leví in the Jewish quarter; that building now houses the Museo Sefardí. Toledo has been on UNESCO’s list since 1986 and is described as a testimony to more than 2,000 years of history — a Roman municipium, the Visigothic capital, a fortress of the Emirate of Córdoba and, in the 16th century, briefly the seat of supreme power under Charles V. Surviving monuments reflect the interplay of Jewish, Christian and Islamic traditions and the evolution of the Mudéjar style.
