2 Euro Commemorative Coin Luxembourg 2021 100th Anniversary of the birth of Grand Duke Jean - Relief Version This issue marks one hundred years since the birth of Grand Duke Jean. He was born on 5 January 1921 at Berg Castle to Grand Duchess Charlotte and Prince Félix of Bourbon‑Parma. Jean reigned from 12 November 1964 until his abdication on 7 October 2000 and died on 23 April 2019. The design shows two portraits: at left Jean with the legend “JEAN 1921,” at right Grand Duke Henri with “HENRI.” Beneath them appears a silhouette of the city of Luxembourg, alongside the inscription “GROUSSHERZOGE VU LËTZEBUERG” and the year “2021.” Eurocollezione attributes the design to a team at the Banque centrale du Luxembourg; the official EU motif notice gives no further credit.
