2 Euro Commemorative Coin Spain 2007 50th Anniversary of the Treaty of Rome The Spanish 2-euro commemorative coin of 2007, Spain’s second such issue, marks the 50th anniversary of the Treaties of Rome signed on 25 March 1957 — the accords that created the European Economic Community and set the path toward the single currency. Issued by all euro countries with a common design, it shows the founding document of the six signatory states in the foreground against the Michelangelo-designed paving of Rome’s Piazza del Campidoglio, the site of signature. The national side carries inscriptions noting the anniversary, the word “Europa” and the issuing state's name in the national language; Spain accordingly bears the Spanish wording. The coin’s outer ring is framed by the European Union’s twelve stars.
