2 Euro Commemorative Coin San Marino 2021 550th Anniversary of the birth of Albrecht Dürer San Marino’s 2021 issue marks the 550th anniversary of Albrecht Dürer’s birth, commemorating a major figure of the German Renaissance. Born in Nuremberg in 1471 and deceased in 1528, Dürer exerted lasting influence on European art, above all through his exceptional achievements in printmaking. His career and artistic language also reflect an important exchange between northern European traditions and Renaissance developments in Italy. The coin features a detail associated with the religious subject “Virgin and Child,” attributed to Dürer or closely connected with his work. The selected painted scene is accompanied by the artist’s initials. This design unites a recognizable devotional motif with a concise reference to the anniversary being celebrated.
