2 Euro Commemorative Coin Germany 2008 Federal State of Hamburg, St. Michaelis Church (Bundesländer I) Issued in 2008, this German €2 commemorative coin honors Hamburg through one of the city’s most recognizable landmarks: the Protestant main church of St. Michael, popularly known as the Michel. The Baroque church reflects Hamburg’s religious and civic history, while its highly visible 132-metre tower continues to define the city centre. The national side presents the building from the south, emphasizing its balanced silhouette and distinctive architectural features. Designer Erich Ott translated the church into the circular coin field with the precision of an architectural drawing. The result links urban identity, historical continuity, and an elegant portrait of Hamburg.
