2 Euro Commemorative Coin Estonia 2021 The Estonian national animal Estonia’s 2021 commemorative issue is dedicated to the wolf, officially chosen as the country’s national animal in 2018. Its selection involved several Estonian organisations concerned with wildlife, nature conservation, and sheep and goat husbandry. The wolf was regarded as an apt emblem of endurance, resilience, intelligence, and strong family and territorial bonds. It also reflects the long-standing balance between woodland and farming that has shaped Estonia’s natural environment and cultural life. The coin turns this symbolism into a vivid northern landscape: a howling wolf occupies a rocky outcrop, while a spruce forest stretches behind it beneath a sky filled with stars. Maria Meos created the design. The inscriptions identify the issuing country and year with “EESTI” and “2021”, while the scientific name “CANIS LUPUS” adds a precise zoological reference. Twelve stars form the surrounding ring. The coin entered circulation in Estonia on 20 October 2021.
