The second series of coins issued under his authority reflects an attempt to standardise weight, value and confidence in money across a large and diverse realm. The commemorative coin therefore points to an era in which coinage policy was also financial, commercial and political policy. It links numismatic history with the question of how stable currencies and clear standards can facilitate economic relations.
