2 Euro Commemorative Coin Slovenia 2022 150th Anniversary of the birth of architect Joze Plecnik Slovenia €2 Commemorative Coin 2022 150th Anniversary of Jože Plečnik’s Birth This coin commemorates 150 years since the birth of Slovenian architect Jože Plečnik on 23 January 1872. In 2022, Banka Slovenije issued a circulating €2 commemorative coin for the anniversary, part of a national Plečnik Year proclaimed by the Slovenian Government. Plečnik’s influence extended beyond Slovenia to Vienna, Prague and Belgrade, while his most defining urban legacy emerged in Ljubljana after the First World War and the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Through streets, squares, bridges, promenades and civic buildings, he reshaped the former provincial town into a symbolic national capital. UNESCO inscribed this human-centred urban design as World Heritage in 2021.
