2 Euro Commemorative Coin Italy 2022 30th Anniversary of the death of Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino Issued in 2022, this Italian €2 commemorative coin marks thirty years since the murders of judges Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino in two Mafia attacks in Sicily. Falcone was killed at Capaci on 23 May 1992 together with his wife, fellow magistrate Francesca Morvillo, and three police escorts. On 19 July, Borsellino died in the Via D’Amelio bombing alongside members of his security detail. Their work made them enduring symbols of the defence of legality, democratic institutions, and civic responsibility. The coin’s central design places their portraits side by side, adapted from a well-known photograph by Tony Gentile. Their names and the dates 1992–2022 appear above the image, while twelve stars frame the tribute within the European currency.
