2 Euro Commemorative Coin San Marino 2008 European Year of Intercultural Dialogue San Marino’s 2008 issue commemorates the European Year of Intercultural Dialogue, an initiative established by the European Union. The campaign sought to make exchange between cultural traditions more visible, encourage respect for diversity, and support peaceful coexistence in societies shaped by many identities. It also connected cultural understanding with the idea of active European citizenship. The design brings together five human silhouettes, representing the cultures of five European regions. Alongside them are sacred texts associated with different communities, suggesting the continent’s varied religious and cultural heritage. An inscription identifying the commemorative year and the date 2008 completes the central composition. San Marino released this coin in April 2008, giving the broader European theme a place in its national coinage.
