The issue places his life within the history of the Catholic Church in the twentieth century, recalling a pontificate that continued until his death in 1978. Its central image presents Paul VI. from the front in a warm gesture of welcome, with both arms extended. This deliberately human portrayal is complemented by recognizable papal details: his cassock and sash, the coat of arms associated with his pontificate, and the mantle over his shoulders. The dates 1897–2022 frame the commemoration by linking his birth year with the anniversary year.
