2 Euro Commemorative Coin Vatican City 2022 25th Anniversary of the death of Mother Teresa of Calcutta 2 Euro Commemorative Coin Vatican 2022 | 25th Anniversary of the Death of Mother Teresa of Calcutta commemorates the nun who died in Calcutta on 5 September 1997. Issued on 6 September 2022, the coin marked twenty-five years since her death and recalled a life devoted to serving people in poverty and illness. Born Gonxha Agnes Bojaxhiu in Skopje in 1910, she reached Calcutta in 1929 and adopted the name Teresa after making her religious profession there in 1937. The Missionaries of Charity, the congregation associated with her work, was formally established in the Archdiocese of Calcutta in 1950. Its central design portrays Mother Teresa holding an Indian child, while the dates 1997–2022 identify the anniversary being honoured.
