2 Euro Commemorative Coin Austria 2022 35th Anniversary of the Erasmus Program This issue celebrates the Erasmus programme, launched in 1987 to support study periods and exchange across Europe. Its design draws on Hans Holbein the Younger’s 1523 portrait of Erasmus of Rotterdam writing. A network of lines in the background represents intellectual and cultural connections among people from different countries, with the number 35 embedded in the pattern. The coin thus links the humanist Erasmus with the modern ideal of a Europe that learns and connects across borders.
