2 Euro Commemorative Coin Estonia 2022 35th Anniversary of the Erasmus Program Estonia’s 2022 commemorative 2 euro coin celebrates the 35th anniversary of Erasmus, the European education and mobility programme launched in 1987. Erasmus+ encourages learning and study experiences abroad, strengthens cooperation between countries, and enables encounters between different cultures. Issued with a common design shared by the euro countries, the coin entered circulation in Estonia from 1 July 2022. Its central image brings together a representation of the humanist Erasmus and a network of radiant links spreading between points of light. The first element suggests the intellectual inspiration behind the programme; the second evokes the many personal and academic connections created among European students. Several links take the form of stars, an allusion to European cooperation, while the star pattern also constructs the number 35. The national inscriptions “EESTI / 1987–2022 / ERASMUSE PROGRAMM” identify the country, anniversary and occasion. Joaquin Jimenez’s initials, “J.J.”, appear as the designer’s mark, completing a composition that turns educational exchange into a visual map of connection.
