2 Euro Commemorative Coin Slovenia 2008 500th Anniversary of birth of Primoz Trubar Slovenian €2 Commemorative Coin 2008 500th Anniversary of the Birth of Primož Trubar This coin honours Primož Trubar (1508–1586), a central figure of the sixteenth-century Reformation and a founder of Slovenian literary culture. In 1550, during the Reformation era, Trubar produced Catechismus and Abecedarium, generally regarded as the first books printed in the Slovene language. His work helped establish a written literary form of Slovene and supported the growth of Slovenian literature and education. Trubar was also an evangelical clergyman whose religious activities shaped the development of Protestantism among Slovenes. Issued in 2008, the commemorative €2 coin therefore marks both his quincentenary and his lasting cultural significance.
