2 Euro Commemorative Coin Ireland 2022 35th Anniversary of the Erasmus Program For the 35th anniversary of the Erasmus programme, launched in 1987, Ireland issued this common 2 euro coin. The programme is named after the humanist Erasmus of Rotterdam and has encouraged cross-border learning and mobility across Europe since its creation. In his design, Joaquín Jiménez combined a portrait of Erasmus with a network of lines and dots. The connecting lines represent exchange and encounter, while some configurations form stars and incorporate the number 35 into the image. The coin shows that European cooperation rests not only on treaties, but also on individual educational paths and meetings. Its inscriptions include “ERASMUS PROGRAMME”, “ÉIRE” and the years 1987–2022.
