2 Euro Commemorative Coin Malta 2022 35th Anniversary of the Erasmus Program 35th anniversary of the Erasmus Programme: Issued in 2022, this €2 commemorative coin marks 35 years of European cooperation in education. Erasmus was established in 1987 to strengthen collaboration between higher-education institutions and to support organised cross-border exchanges for students. Originally a university programme, it later developed through Socrates and the Lifelong Learning Programme into Erasmus+, launched in 2014 and now covering education, training, youth and sport. The central design combines a portrait of Erasmus of Rotterdam with a radiant network linking beacon-like points, symbolising intellectual and human exchange among European students. The number 35 and further stars emerge from the design, while twelve European flag stars encircle it.
