2 Euro Commemorative Coin Germany 2023 Federal State Hamburg, Elbphilharmonie (Bundesländer II) Issued in 2023, Germany’s Hamburg commemorative €2 coin launched the “Federal States II” series. Each annual issue presents one German state through a distinctive landmark, with the sequence linked to the state presidencies of the Bundesrat. The design places the Elbphilharmonie at its center, celebrating the concert hall that opened in January 2017 and quickly became a defining symbol of Hamburg’s cultural identity. Created by artist Michael Otto, the national side combines the building’s striking silhouette with a maritime cityscape, evoking Hamburg’s historic connection to the port and its role as a major musical center. “HAMBURG,” the year, mint mark, and twelve stars complete the composition.
