2 Euro Commemorative Coin Spain 2023 Old City of Caceres - UNESCO World Heritage Sites Spain’s 2023 €2 commemorative coin pays tribute to the Ciudad Vieja of Cáceres, the city’s historic centre. The design presents a panoramic view of the monumental complex, giving particular prominence to the Plaza Mayor. In the inner field the legend ESPAÑA and the date 2023 run in a circle; the mint mark appears to the right and CÁCERES is inscribed at the bottom, while the outer ring bears the twelve stars of the European flag. Inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1986, the walled town preserves Almohad fortifications and layers of Roman, Islamic, northern-Gothic and Italian Renaissance influence; its urban form was largely shaped between the 14th and 16th centuries by competing noble factions.
