2 Euro Commemorative Coin Croatia 2023 The introduction of the euro as the official currency of Croatia on 1 January 2023 This first Croatian €2 commemorative issue marks the country’s change to the common European currency on 1 January 2023. The transition from the kuna to the euro made Croatia the twentieth member of the euro area, linking everyday life in the country to one of Europe’s key integration projects. The design turns that event into a concise visual statement. “HRVATSKA”, the year, and the reference to membership of the euro area combine to form a stylised euro sign. Alongside it, the Croatian checkerboard provides an unmistakably national element. The coin therefore presents the currency change as a meeting point between Croatian identity and European belonging.
