2 Euro Commemorative Coin Luxembourg 2024 100th Anniversary of the Introduction of Luxembourgish Franc Coins with the Image of the Feiersteppler - Relief Version This issue marks the grand-ducal decree signed by Grand Duchess Charlotte on 2 August 1924 ordering the issue of 1- and 2-franc Feierstëppler coins. The first coins reached circulation in 1924 and were meant, among other purposes, to supersede the equal-value 1- and 2-franc banknotes of 1918 and 1919. The theme also underscores the pivotal role of steelmaking in 1920s Luxembourg: the Feierstëppler embodies the blast-furnace worker tending the fire. Central to the design is the numeral “100”: the first zero reproduces a 1924 1-franc coin, while the second bears Grand Duke Henri’s monogram. The motif was created by the Italian artist Chiara Principe; her initials “CP” appear on the coin.
