2 Euro Commemorative Coin Italy 2024 250th Anniversary of the foundation of the Guardia di Finanza Corps Italy’s 2024 €2 commemorative coin marks the 250th anniversary of the Guardia di Finanza, the country’s military financial and economic police force. Its institutional story begins in 1774, when the Kingdom of Sardinia created the Legione Truppe Leggere, an early Italian corps intended to monitor military and customs security along the borders. That foundation eventually led to the modern service, whose responsibilities include countering illicit trafficking and safeguarding economic and financial security. The coin presents a stylized version of the corps’ heraldic emblem. Mountain, sea, sky and a griffin surround imagery of a treasure chest and a turreted crown, referring to protection of the state treasury. The design also bears the Italian Republic monogram, the dates 1774–2024, the mint mark R and twelve European stars.
