2 Euro Commemorative Coin Monaco 2024 500th Anniversary of the Treaty with Charles V The Treaty of Burgos of 1524 placed Monaco under the protection of Charles V and opened a period of close association with Spain. For the Principality, it was a security decision in an age of competing great powers. The Emperor's portrait makes the international dimension of that agreement tangible and adds another key chapter to the recognition of Monegasque sovereignty commemorated in 2012.
