2 Euro Commemorative Coin Croatia 2024 Old Town of Varazdin This issue places Varaždin in the spotlight, a city whose historic core is shaped by medieval streets, Baroque palaces, and the Stari Grad fortress. The Old Town Castle shown on the coin was altered over many centuries: a defensive stronghold gradually became a Renaissance and Baroque ensemble that still defines the city’s appearance. Varaždin was at times a political and cultural centre of Croatia. Its combination of military architecture, a mercantile townscape, and Baroque churches makes the place a concentrated record of several historical periods. Rather than treating the past as a backdrop, the coin invites viewers to see it as a living cultural heritage.
